Stay Safe on the Road with These Autumn Driving Tips

Stay Safe on the Road with These Autumn Driving Tips

Switch safety gears and review your auto insurance for fall.

The fall season is upon us, and we’re welcoming in changing leaves, cooler nights, and the festive season. While we’re enjoying the colors of autumn, motorists face a new set of challenges while driving on the roads. From fallen leaves to inclement weather, drivers should prepare for fall driving dangers.

The fall leaves create quite a picturesque landscape – but a hazardous driving one! Here are just a few of the hazards that you may experience in the autumn:

  • The autumn leaves and drizzling rain create a slippery surface on the road. Take care when you’re driving in areas with lots of bare trees and always slow down if you come to debris in the middle of the road.
  • When it rains, the oil on the roads creates a slick surface. Be sure to leave enough space between you and the driver in front as your stopping distance may increase.
  • Autumn is the time when we change our clocks, which means that you may lose visibility on the roads. Turn on your lights at dusk and dawn.
  • Ice is especially prevalent during October and November. You may need to equip your vehicle with snow tires. Additionally, beware of black ice on the road by taking wet roads slowly.
  • Fall is deer mating season, so the likelihood of you meeting a deer increases now. Slow down during dusk and dawn, when the deer are most active, and always drive slowly on country roads.
  • Before you head out on that autumn driving trip, give your car some TLC to properly prepare it for the season and roads ahead.

Fortunately, when you’re involved in a disaster, your auto insurance can step in to help cover the finances. Now is the time to review your coverage to make sure that you’re protected for the season ahead!

Do You Have Any of These Gaps in Your Auto Insurance?

Do You Have Any of These Gaps in Your Auto Insurance?

Find out if your car insurance policy has substantial gaps.

Motorists purchase auto insurance to protect themselves, their vehicle, and their finances from suffering a loss during an accident. When it comes to deciding on a policy that offers such protection, many select the cheapest policy. However, such a policy may not offer coverage for some events that could leave you financially strained.

When it comes to gaps in your auto insurance, here are a few lacking coverages that you should double-check before securing your policy.

Drivers & Vehicles
Which drivers and vehicles are covered by your auto insurance? Most policies provide coverage for you and your family members living with you. While your child who is living in a college dorm may be covered, your other child living in an off-campus apartment may be excluded from coverage.

Devices
Your electronic devices may not be covered for stolen or damaged cell phones or other devices. Should these items be stolen from your car, your home insurance may provide coverage. To prevent theft from occurring in the first place, store devices out of sight.

Rentals
Your own collision coverage may apply to the rental car you’re driving, but it may not cover all of the damages alleged by the rental company, such as loss of use charges. If you’re leasing a car long-term, your policy may only cover the replacement cost if the car is a total loss or is stolen. However, the amount may not cover the outstanding balance of your lease.

Now that you know what coverages your policy may be lacking, be sure to secure your reliable, all-encompassing auto insurance by giving All Nevada Insurance a call today.

Going Back to College? Don’t Forget Your Renter’s Insurance!

Going Back to College? Don’t Forget Your Renter’s Insurance!

Your child is all packed up and ready to head off to college. Do they have the right insurance for the semester ahead?

College season is upon us, and many young adults across the nation are moving out on their own. Whether choosing the dorm life or living off campus with friends, it’s the first time that students start to acquire their own possessions. These include stereos, laptops, printers, tablets, phones, flat screen TVs, and those all-expensive textbooks. In turn, college students should be aware of the assets that they take with them.

Chances are, if a student’s laptop gets stolen, it’ll cost at least $1,000 or more. Typical college students don’t have that kind of cash lying around.

Fortunately, renter’s insurance will step in to cover the costs. Most standard renter’s insurance policies provide three types of coverage:

  • Personal property – A typical policy covers your belongings if they are damaged due to fire, theft, vandalism, smoke, lightning, windstorm, and discharge of water.
  • Liability – This is coverage that insures you if you’re sued. If someone slips and falls on the property, and he/she sues for the cost of medical bills, your liability coverage will help you to pay for this expense.
  • Loss of use – This coverage helps you to pay for another apartment or hotel should you be unable to use your rented property for any reason.

Depending on your situation, you’ll need additional insurance to cover hurricane damage, flood damage, and identity theft protection. Every parent wants to set their child up for success by sending them off to college, protected.

The bottom line is that you need renter’s insurance to safeguard belongings and finances. Contact All Nevada Insurance to get started on the right coverage.

How Do I Choose the Right Home Insurance Deductible?

How Do I Choose the Right Home Insurance Deductible?

Get the most out of your home insurance with a deductible to suit your needs.

Choosing the right deductible is vital to protecting your home and finances. Every policy has a deductible so every person buying homeowners insurance will have to make this decision (no, there’s no avoiding it!).

Selecting a deductible limit that suits your needs and budget enables your home to stay protected, your money to stay in your pocket, and your belongings to stay safe. In short, what more could you want?

What is a deductible?

A deductible is a total amount that you have to pay out-of-pocket before insurance kicks in. If you have a $1,000 deductible on your home insurance, in the event of an accident or damage from a listed peril, you are responsible for the first $1,000 of accident-related payments, and then the insurance company will handle the rest (up to the policy limit).

There are generally two types of deductibles: a dollar-amount and a percentage based. The difference between them is how your deductible is calculated, and there are a couple of factors depending on how much your home is valued at. Once calculated, the amount a homeowner pays if they file a claim is fixed for the length of that policy.

How to Choose:

When selecting a deductible, you’re really balancing the short-term cost that you can afford (your deductible) and the long-term cost of your policy (your premiums). A higher deductible means lower monthly premiums. But before selecting a high deductible right off the bat, consider if you can afford this high out-of-pocket cost in the event of an accident.

There are other reasons it makes sense to raise your deductible. Every insurance company is different, but typically, if you file a claim, the cost of your premium will rise because, in essence, you’ve become a riskier and costlier homeowner to insure. And the more claims you file, the higher your premium will be!

Making Your First Home Insurance Policy Affordable

First Home Insurance Policy Affordable

Buying a home? Don’t lose money with an over-priced home policy.

After an exhausting process of finding the perfect starter home, buying the first homeowners insurance policy that you can find sounds pretty good. While this is tempting, it’s important not to do this.

Home insurance is just as crucial as securing the right mortgage rate! With this coverage, your beloved home and large investment are kept in great shape for years to come. Even though it’s hard to imagine your sparkling new home in disarray in the aftermath of a natural disaster, accidents happen.

Securing your first homeowners insurance policy doesn’t have to break the bank. Here’s how to keep your first premium at an affordable rate.

Don’t just go for the cheapest policy.
In a ridiculously cheap policy, it’s likely that the coverage will be less than minimal. You’ll need to secure the right amount of protection for the risks to your dwelling, personal belongings, and liability.

Save by bundling your policies.
Many insurers will grant you savings when you purchase multiple policies from them. This way, you can enjoy managing all of your policies under one entity and save money! That’s what we call a win-win.

Understand your coverage limits.
You should always know what exactly is covered in your policy – and what isn’t! If you find gaps in your policy, be sure to call your insurer to learn how you can protect yourself, your finances, and your assets. In many cases, you can increase or decrease your coverage limits, which means that you get the protection levels you want!

Review your credit score.
Not only does a good credit score help you to get a better interest rate on your mortgage, it could also help you to save on your homeowners insurance. If you have less than ideal credit, improve it by spending less, reducing your debt, and paying your bills on time.

Easy Hacks to Improve Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

Improve Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

Cut down on gas consumption by adopting these fuel-saving habits.

Do you find yourself constantly stopping at the gas station to top up your tank? If so, you may need to reassess your driving habits. Simply driving a little more carefully and cautiously can do wonders for your wallet – and the environment!

Use these tips to conserve fuel while driving.

Empty the trunk. Are you carrying around unnecessary weight? If you have heavy golf clubs in the trunk, your car will need to use more fuel to haul the goods. If you can, remove your heavy items before a journey to conserve gas.

Accelerate smoothly. The perfect way to travel is at a constant speed (ideally around 50mph). If you are a patient driver who accelerates slowly, you will have lower fuel bills. The car uses more gas when you step on the accelerator, as opposed to gently accelerating.

Check the tire pressures. The lower the tire pressure, the more fuel the car needs to move it down the road. Especially in the cooler weather, check your tires often to ensure that they are within 5 psi of the recommended levels from the manufacturer.

Stick to the speed limit. Driving at 50mpg is more economical to your wallet than driving at 70mpg. Even if you have to set off 20 minutes earlier, opt to stick to speed limits and slow down instead of paying out at the petrol pump!

Make fewer trips. This is obvious, but it is so frequently overlooked. Driving a car that has been parked for a few hours with a cold engine uses much more fuel for the first five or so miles. Ideally, combine all of your daily errands into one trip so that you’re not making several short journeys, which use up more fuel.

Household Items You Should Be Recycling

Household Items You Should Be Recycling

Recycling is easier than ever – check out top household items to always recycle.

The average person in the United States generates around 4.5 pounds of waste every single day! Times that by 300 million and you can see why litter has become a serious problem in this country. Recycling saves valuable space in landfills as well as supplying resources to be used again. While every business and individual should be playing their part to go greener, homeowners should take note that these top household items to always recycle are often overlooked.

  1. Junk mail – You can recycle most of the mail that comes into your home. Make it easier by placing a recycling bin next to where you store the incoming post. Even better, get your bills and account updates sent to via email.
  2. Books – Donate or sell old books that you no longer read. You can also recycle books that have been destroyed.
  3. Ink cartridges – Most printer ink cartridges contain toxic materials that do not belong in the trash. Instead of throwing them out, take them to your nearest Staples or Best Buy, where they will take your old ink cartridge for recycling.
  4. Disposable plates and cups – Avoid these wasteful party supplies if you can. If you cannot, always recycle them! You can also shred them and put them underneath your mulch to provide nutrients for your plants.
  5. Household batteries – The toxic material in batteries greatly contribute to pollution, especially when they break down in landfill sites. Many libraries and post offices now collect household batteries for recycling.
  6. Old TVs – If you’ve recently updated your smaller TV to a shiny, new model, the old TV may be sitting in the garage, lifeless. Instead of dumping it in the bin, take it to your nearest e-waste center.
  7. The basics: bottles, cans, paper, plastic, cardboard! Always!

How to Deal with Small Business Stressors

Deal with Small Business Stressors

Hard-working business professionals, use these tips to minimize your stress.

As much as you love your small business, being an entrepreneur can actually be harmful to your health. From burning the midnight oil to setting up your business single-handedly, you could be hindering your health.

It’s not surprising when you consider that entrepreneurs work longer hours than almost anyone else. Two-thirds of small business owners work over 40 hours a week, and one in ten put in a staggering 70 hours or more.

Be sure to put in the hours to revitalize your health and restore your sanity with these nifty tips!

Stop saying yes. As a small business owner, there’s a misconception that you must do everything in your power to be successful. While that is sometimes true, you can easily take on too much and run yourself into the ground – and possibly your company. Don’t let failure be an option; learn to say ‘no’ before signing yourself up for more work than you can handle.

Delegate tasks. You employ a team of staff – so use them! Instead of putting more onto your plate, delegate tasks to your specialized staff and trust that they’ll get it done correctly. This works wonders in taking a huge weight off your shoulders.

Unplug. When you have a day off, make it a day away from the office entirely! Don’t check your work emails every five minutes or call into the office to make sure that things are running smoothly. Take a load off and relax! For maximum stress reduction, spend quality time with friends and family.
