- Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway. This road runs all the way from Oregon’s Crater Lake National Park to California’s Lassen Volcanic National Park. Make sure to block out an extra two to five days to enjoy all that the road has to offer, from lakes and mountains, to wildlife and charming small towns. Mount Shasta, which is the country’s second highest volcano, is along the way as well.
- Redwood Highway. The highway through California features views of the ocean, lagoons, and beautify Victorian homes. The north end of the route features Standish-Hikey State Recreation Area is a 1,000 acre forest of redwoods, maples, oaks, and Douglas fir trees. The Eel River is also in the forest, and is the perfect place to stop to swim or fish for salmon and steelhead trout.
- Strait of Juan de Fuca Highway. This is the perfect trip for anyone who enjoys Native American history. This highway runs along the Washington shores of a glacial fjord that connects Puget Sound to the Pacific Ocean. There are plenty of chances to learn about Native American history while visiting the Makah Indian Reservation and Makah Cultural Museum.
- Red Rock Scenic Byway. This Arizona road offers something for everyone, from beautiful views of red rock and monoliths, to public golf courses and different hiking trails. The byway also features Arizona’s Coconino National Forest and Courthouse Butte, which is popular with many mountain bikers.
