Fourth of July Safety Tips

Now that summer has kicked into high gear, it’s time for some 4^th of July safety tips!

Swimming safety

Nothing beats the beach or pool to cool off on a hot summer day. If there are people in your group who don’t know how to swim or aren’t good swimmers, have a safety system in place!

• Keep a watchful eye on everyone in the water.
• Teach children basic water safety tips.
• Keep children away from pool drains, pipes, and other openings.
• Have flotation devices near.

Grilling safety tips

• Make sure your grill is well away from your home and deck railings, and out from under eaves or overhanging branches.
• Keep children and pets away from the grilling area.
• Never leave your grill unattended!
• Grill outdoors only.
• If you spot a leak, shut off the gas immediately.

Firework safety tips

• Leave lighting them to the pros!
• Never use fireworks indoors (yes, people are still trying this!)
• Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal where you live, do not use them.
• Avoid using homemade fireworks or illegal explosives.
• Always have water on hand ready to douse a fire!
