Preparing your backyard for barbecue season.
It’s that time of year again! It’s time to dig out the barbecue from its winter hibernation and start preparing for summer. Additionally, you’ll want to ensure that your home and backyard are ready. After all, if you’re going to be hosting a party, your home and garden should be in good and safe condition. Here’s how to get started!
Show your lawn some TLC. You may need to mow, rake, or even re-sod patches of your lawn where the grass has yellowed or dried out. It’s also a good idea to do a quick walk around your lawn to check for holes or other possible tripping hazards.
Clear the walkways. You don’t want any of your guests to stumble or step over things to get to the entertaining area. Ensure that your walkways are clear of debris and items, fill in holes and cracks, and light all the of paths well.
Check the deck. Aesthetically, look for any spots on your deck that might need a touch of paint of a vigorous scrub. Be on the lookout for any signs that your deck might not be structurally sound to handle an influx of people. If you spot any signs of wood rot or termites, it’s best to sort it as soon as possible.
Create a kid-friendly zone. Even if you only intend to have one child in attendance at your outdoor party, do the parents a favor and create a kid-friendly zone. This could include a ladder ball, cornhole, sidewalk chalk, and other activities that will keep him or her entertained for hours.
Scrub up the grill. Would it be a party without grilled food? We think not! Regardless of what you’ll be making, you’ll want to ensure that your grill is in tip-top condition beforehand. Scrape it down and give it a good clean. Ensure that it is set up in a good and safe location (away from children and pets, overhanging trees, and the house).
